Pit Bull Adoption Information
PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING A “PIT BULL”!!
GOOD NEWS YOU CAN STILL ADOPT FOR A LITTLE WHILE YET!
First and foremost, the law in Ontario does not come into effect
until the end of the summer or early fall 2005. Until such time,
nothing has changed in Ontario with respect to owning "pit bull"
type dogs and walking them in public. With the exception of cities
in Ontario that already have breed-specific bylaws (namely
Kitchener-Waterloo, Windsor, and some small towns) and with the
exception of individual dogs of any breed that have a history of
aggression and are the subject of restrictions placed on them by
Animal Control departments:
- Until the law comes into
effect, no dog owner is required to muzzle their dog.
- Until the law comes into
effect, any dog of any breed is allowed to go to a leash-free
park and be off leash while still under the owner's control.
- Until the law comes into
effect, no dog is required to be spayed or neutered.
- At any time, before or after
the law comes into effect, any dog is allowed to be loose and
unmuzzled on its owner's property.
- Until the law comes into
effect, it is not illegal to own a "pit bull" type dog, nor is
it illegal to walk it in public on a leash.
- After the law comes into
effect, it will still not be illegal to own a "pit bull" type
dog that lived in Ontario before the law, nor will it be illegal
to walk it in public on a leash as long as it is muzzled.
We have many wonderful Pit Bull puppies and dogs looking for homes
and they need you ASAP. By adopting one of these unwanted Pit Bulls
you can save him/her from being put to sleep or being sold to
research as determined by the government to be the fate for most of
the dogs/puppies. All dogs/pups adopted are vaccinated, vet checked
and spayed/neutered if of age. If you do not see your companion on
our site please let us know what you are looking for and we can help
you locate a pet through one of the other organizations who also
have this breed (or similar) looking for homes. If you are looking
to adopt a Pit Bull or type dog we strongly prefer homes that are
houses with a fenced yard. Adoption fees do apply, Adoption
Applications must be filled in before an appointment can be made to
meet/adopt a Pit Bull, you MUST be 23 years of age or older to
adopt. These are 4 Legged Love basic adoption guide lines for Pit
Bull and Pit Bull type dogs.
You can also help by making donations. We are always in need of
bedding, dog and puppy food and treats (milk bones, puppy biscuits,
marrows..), smaller leashes and collars for puppies, chew toys (raw
hide strips or sticks, pigs ears, dental bones… anything that might
last a while to occupy a pup or dog!), stuffed toys and “Kongs”for
puppies, news paper. We also accept cash donations to help cover any
vet bills or other costs inquired. If you wish to donate to help
fight BSL please ask and we can put you in touch with the proper
people.
